Cute. Is it any good?

Interesting arrangement on those leading edge flaps. Looks like they could act as an airbrake too.

Who knows....

It does however make the most errie sounding and loud 'blue-note', as seen on flypasts over Moscow last year.

Looks very nice - plenty of info on it at wiki....

Pretty - bit of a stretch to call it stealth though - gestures towards more like.
Half-baked F-22ski.
Lovely big wide fat hot smoky Saturn exhausts...

C W Lemoine has some interesting thoughts on it; just his impressions rather than news because there isn’t that much around:

Yep - indeed unusual. I'd really be curious to learn more about how they operate.

It has a lot of wing!

Modern Russian and Chinese fighters (SU-27 onwards) seem optimised for low speed turning fights.

Are they still applying the wrong lessons from Vietnam or are their long range missiles a bit bobbins?

Looks like a mini Firefox, Clint Eastwood waiting for his call up.

What a handsome looking machine! "If it looks right, it (usually!) flies right!"

Last I read, recent generation Russian missiles were far from 'Bobbins' - rather quite good I seem to recall.

]I'm sure your right - just seems the aircraft are not optimised to use them - or at least fight a different fight

me too, went to wiki and found this: .......The aircraft incorporates thrust vectoring (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vectoring_nozzle) and large leading edge root extensions (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leading_edge_root_extension) that shift the aerodynamic center forward, increasing static instability and maneuverability. These extensions have adjustable leading–edge vortex controllers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leading%E2%80%93edge_extension#Leading%E2%80%93edge_vortex_c ontroller) (LEVCONs) designed to control the generated vortices and can provide trim and improve high angle of attack (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angle_of_attack) behaviour, including a quick stall recovery if the thrust vectoring system fails.[83] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sukhoi_Su-57#cite_note-89) To air-brake (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_brake_(aeronautics)), the ailerons deflect up while the flaperons deflect down and the vertical stabilisers toe inward to increase drag......

One would they would stay in the neutral position in the event of any hydraulic issues, otherwise could be a tad challenging...
