Just one line regarding the civilian part of Operation Pitting. The company that I worked for provided medical care for evacuee's from DWC to BHX/LHR approximately 10 flights using chartered A330s. We used teams of four covering the majority of medical specialities, both adult and paediatric. Diversion was politically not an option. We had the capability if required to provide up to in-flight intensive care. As a company we accompanied approximately 2000 people for the flights to the UK, from DWC, some heavily pregnant who in normal times would not have been allowed to travel, a couple of bomb victims and some with other conditions. Our first team went into Kabul and the rest of us were prepared to do so as well, but the security situation collapsed, and we were withdrawn to operating from DWC.

The link will take you to the words of at the time our company MD and the medical director. Air Alliance Medflight UK has since been closed down by the German parent company due to a merger, leaving the UK without a fixed wing jet based Air Ambulance company. I am as one of the team members so proud of my colleagues and what we achieved.

Piqued my interest, so after browsing the document and finding only one, un-captioned pic of the interior of a Chinook on P92 I did a search for 'helicopter'...

8 mentions, 3 of which are rubbishing them in the article on 'zero-emissions'. Interesting approach to the future for a force element which so recently showed the rest of the RAF what being on continuously-deployed ops was really all about. I noted with further interest that even Leonardo's 'ad' at the beginning didn't talk about their woeful contribution to the rotary-wing fleet.
