This is also the first concrete evidence that American authorities are taking custody of at least some of the ex-Afghan military aircraft now scattered around the world, the vast majority of which were originally purchased by the U.S. government. The 3 MI17 are believed to be part of the aircraft used by the fleeing Afghan forces.

Glad that some escaped the theater. Had the pleasure of seeing my first Mi-17 flying about 2 years ago - a pretty rare sight in the US.

I wonder? Imagine a few types could be of use at other bases, by various users, rather than the boneyard and have been moved to other places. Hopefully the west will not totally draw down the capability of flying and training on indigenous and lower cost COIN types....or more likely will focus on peer and near-peer conflict for a few years and totally forget the lessons of lower intensity conflict and cheaper COIN type aircraft, MRAP's etc.
