Hey team pprune,

I know they aren't to many Cheyennes flying in Australia, but I'm hoping to find a LAME / maintenance shop that has some experience with PA42 or PA31T ... if somebody has an idea or recommendation please point me in the right direction.

Many thanks!

There were a few based at Essendon, maybe a ring around maintenance operators there might yield some answers, can't offer more than that sorry.

I think Interair at Essendon has had one for maintenance in recent times.

Airflite in Perth are the Australian Piper Dealer.

The CASA Aircraft Register shows only 3. One PA31T and two PA42’s. You could try and contact the owner/operators.

We lost the only Cheyenne 400LS registered here when it transferred to the NuwZulland register a couple of years ago.
I remember as VH-BUR it crossed the country from Geraldton to Port Macquarie non-stop in not much more than 4 hours.

Mate, there is a long time charter operator operating a Cheyenne lll here in Perth, Central Air is company name.
According to a quick search just now he is still operating, a PA-42 - 720, rego VH-BUW . It was flying out of Jandakot on 19 Nov according to an online trcking site. Try giving him a call and asking where he gets his done. Probably Airflite as someone mentioned if they are the Aust Piper Distributor. Good Luck, Cheers.

BUW used to be ISW owned operated by State Wide Air Charter Brisbane who imported it in about 1982
Been a couple of other Aus owners also

Off the topic a bit, does anyone remember the details of a Cheyenne that was blown up at YMMB back in the late 80s, owned by a Cathay pilot I think.

Went on many flights around Oz and one to NZ in the early to mid 1980’s. It was a nice machine inside and out.
If memory serves correctly Malcolm Fraser often flew in TNZ to go to his property in country Victoria even when Prime Minister.

Duck,

Yes I do remember the Cheyenne II that was blown up at Moorabbin! The rego was VH-TNZ and was owned by Peter "Piggy" Smith a "business" man from Tasmania. Pete also owned at Piper Chieftain at the same time. I think he was a printer by trade, not sure. Was well connected to various people that normally would not feature on your Christmas card list.

I was the last to fly the aircraft; just arrived home from Aussie Government charter with eye doctors to Kiribati Islands and surrounds. July - Aug 1988
The aircraft required an Inspection upon return, due for lots of maintenance plus squawks, HF had failed early into the mission, Heater was dead after a few days, Janitrol fuel burning type, VLF Omega had fallen over.
Did a lot of damage to the then Hawker's hangar, a Cessna 340 was severely damaged.
Next morning, police arrived, still unexploded dynamite in one of the exhaust pipes.

The wreckage was taken to a rubbish dump after interested parties were done with it. Interestingly; the engine data plates turned up on a couple of dubious PT6A overhauls out of the USA some years later.

Engine data plates of a previously registered Aussie Lear 35/36 that crashed and burned in USA turned turned up a few years later for sale in USA

Pretty sure there’s a maintenance org at Maitland looking after one.
Check out Hunter Aircraft Maintenance.

There used to be a Cheyenne owned by a shipping crate / freight company, that was serviced at Simpsons Aero Electrics at Moorabbin.
