I use Bookmarks a lot in Firefox. A few minutes ago, I noticed that couldn't find an entry that I had bookmarked in Firefox a couple of days ago. So I looked at my Firefox history page just now, October 14 at 22.10, I find that my entries in History have disappeared from earlier today at 18.10, then there is a blank in the History entries for the last six days, where they start again on 08 October at 12.52, and go right back.

Can anyone help me understand what's happened, and, more importantly, suggest how I can retrieve the missing bookmarks? Any help appreciated!

The only thing I can think of is that you somehow used Firefox with a different profile during those days. See here for more information about switching: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-remove-switch-firefox-profiles

I retain my chosen bookmarks, but have set Firefox to delete History/Cookies/passwords etc whenever I close it. Makes for better security, but it's a pain to re-log in to sites. - Like this one!
Have you somehow changed your settings?
I have not had any Firefox updates in the last few days...........

If that had been the case, all the History should have been deleted and not just six days worth.
Tosh, can you type 'about:profiles' in the address bar of your Firefox browser in a new tab and check if it lists more than one profile? If that is the case, click on 'Launch in a new browser' underneath the profile not in use and see if you can find your missing bookmarks in that window. To avoid repeating this, delete the second profile after you have retrieved your missing data.
Another option is that you have been using a 'private' window for the duration of the period in question. I am not sure about this one though as I was under the impression that bookmarks created in a private window would be saved in the normal way.
