4 ship of FJs just flown over Southgate/North Finchley/Whetstone/Barnet area, banking, possibly F15s, at 1000-1500 feet. Glorious sound, but why were they there? Same happened on Thursday at about 9.20.

F15s practising for and then conducting a fly past for an NFL game being played at Tottenham's stadium.

Ahhhhh

Wondered what that NOTAM was all about.

No. 1 son was there to watch the NFL game (no accounting for taste!) and sent a txt "Four F-15's just flew over at the crescendo of the US national anthem. Very low and very tight. Epic timing."

Typical USA got to show military force for everything.
most belligerant country in the world.
UK doesn't send Typhoons for FA cup final and quite right too

Red Arrows have flown past the FA Cup Final at Wembley at least once and for the Euros final - bit of a long way for the Thunderbirds to come and I know the Blue Angels were busy in San Fran yesterday...

Pity the event wasn't at Crystal Palace - 1) as a fairly near neighbour I would have enjoyed seeing them and 2) we could have all yelled "EEEEE-gullllls"!

You stand corrected.

(one of the NFL teams was the New York JETS. Maybe co-incidence but perhaps some falcons were flapping around somewhere too)

Should have used the 4 x B-1B's that arrived at Fairford last week - that would have been more interesting :E

Apologies for a slight thread drift.
Remember a couple of Spitfires doing a two circle bank over Knebworth festival, seconds before Pink Floyd struck the first notes of "Wish you Were Here" in 1975.
Awesome, low and loud.

Drifting again but the best fly past I have seen was during the run up to the Indianapolis 500 in 1993. 5 x P51 Mustangs led by Chuck Yeager.

Red Arrows and Typhoons may well have done flypasts for the FA Cup Final, but this was just a normal league game with nothing at stake, so it does feel a little much...

Respect!

Unless someone has the Glenn Miller Orchestra in the Spruce Goose at the Super Bowl, I suggest that we can now close the thread.

Well you will be pleased to know there is another “normal league game with nothing at stake” next week! Personally I wouldn’t say two teams travelling from the USA to play in front of a packed foreign crowd is normal. To say there was nothing at stake is also complete rubbish, you must be watching York City FC far too much 😉

They do it every year, so not that unusual, I went to the NHL version a few years back.

...and it's not a championship game, so what is there at stake? Happy to be corrected on that, but it's definitely not the Superbowl was basically my point. There's not going to be a flypast for Norwich v Brighton next weekend.

They used to do the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, and hopefully will again when it is up and running after covid.

On the opening day of the 2004 SA v England cricket test at Newlands, Thunder City sent a four ship Hunter formation screaming low over the stadium at lunch.

The Hunters were, at the time sponsored, by SA telecom co MTN so were painted bright yellow....very effective against the deep blue Cape Town sky, with Table Mountain towering in the background.

Flypast! As I recall it was always the signal for the hosts [sometimes "us"] to get rid of the guests at the various station receptions in RAFG.
Last Post, Sunset, Colours [not sure of the order] and a 4-ship low and loud. Variously, I seem to recall Lightnings, Hunters, Harriers and Tornados, spread over three of my lucky tours.

Now b&gger off and let the real thrash begin!

As a footnote, for which I apologise, did anyone else suffer from coffee-spoon pocket? Coffee served genteely on a saucer, with spoon, whilst deep in incredibly boring conversation with strangers, and no use for the spoon, which endangered the cup. Spoon in pocket, discovered weeks later .............. Don't ask.
