Does anyone know if there is an 18 Sqn Association/website or such like please? I have just found some old photos from a party in the Officers Mess when I was on 18 at Gutersloh and I would love to love to share them. Many thanks.

The email address listed is, I'm pretty sure, defunct.

However, they do have an active Facebook page.
If you search for 18 squadron on Facebook, there's a public group (non-association) and an association specific group as well.
well. Worth messaging as a simple request to join the association group won't get you in unless you're an association member I believe.

NB if you're not on Facebook the postal address listed in the above post should be good.

So what's the answer to the conundrum of knowing the right 'preferred pronouns' to use?

Refer to absolutely everyone as they/them?

Sounds a bit clunky.

Woke has further complicated the old problem, never resolved to my satisfaction at a good grammar school nor subsequently: there are contexts where "his/her" or "he/she" feel necessary, but even more clunky [but more accurate] than "they", the latter I take to being plural, not singular.

I wonder what is taught today?

My children, now all old enough to be retired, scold me for "Wales's" for example, preferring "Wales'."

Having written that, I totally accept than language and spelling change with time. "Color" was often used in Victorian English, as in Color-serjeant, for many years.
No fart like an old fart.

This is an example of where an "English Academy" in the Academie Francaise mould might not be so bad. The answer is clearly Wales's, as a moment's consideration of pronunciation confirms, and all major style guides except AP agree. Yet in a few minutes of searching educational sites aimed at young people, including the BBC's, all I see is Wales'. I'd sooner have a highbrow elite pontificating for decades on potential language changes than have a bunch of unseen educators determining them on the basis of what's easy for students...
