Today's METRO (London free morning paper) contains a short piece that details the numbers of military personnel prescribed Viagra last year:
418 members of the Army
258 Navy personnel
205 in the RAF

I'll just leave those numbers there

Is that because the Army is harder?

Quite the opposite, much less hard!

****ing freeloaders!

You can buy this stuff in the chemist/online

Viagra Connect 50mg two tablets £7.50 plus £2.90 delivery.

Misuse of public funds imo...didn't we all get bent out of shape when MPs were putting peanuts on their expense claims.

Blatant Hypocrisy!!!

Clearly not enough standing to attention in today's Army.

It's a valid point.

Using some basic number crunching to work out percentages and using figures from here: Defence Personnel Totals - Strength of UK Regular Forces 2020 - Recruitment of UK Regular Forces - Outflow of UK Regular Forces - Reserve Forces - Cadet Forces - m13 -Armed Forces (http://www.armedforces.co.uk/mod/listings/l0013.html)
Royal Navy/Royal Marines: 0.66%
Royal Air Force: 0.55%
British Army: 0.36%

Obviously a bit simplistic and doesn't take into account gender.

I can understand the Navy results, they have been reporting a shortage of seamen for ages and the inability to get fully up to strength..

I have learnt my lesson from Ish and Campbeex, I should have used the number of members in the three forces to present the data in percentage terms (instead of going off at half cock).

In common with Out Of Trim I do wonder where the numbers came from, FOI request, Parliamentary Question or just plain made up to fill an inch of space. At least they didn't publish a list of names.

I wonder if the use of the word 'members' is an international or unintentional pun.

Remember, Viagra is a vasodilator, and was originally intended as a treatment for high blood pressure. That could be what the medics were treating. :}

Also to remember; if you are on blood-thinning or vasodilation meds for high BP, don't stand up (in the real sense) after taking Viagra. You'll fall over.

So, campbeex, how long have they been prescribing Viagra to “other sex” ?
All in the name of equality ??

I'm pleased that my first post has stimulated a mass debate on the forum.

With regard to why women might be prescribed Viagra, WebMD has this to say:

"Roughly 42% of the women taking Viagra reported increased satisfaction during (Redacted) and (Redacted), compared with 28% of women taking the placebo.
Likewise, 57% of the Viagra-treated women reported improved (Redacted) in the (Redacted) area during (Redacted), compared with 44% of women taking the placebo"

I'm not a medical person so really couldn't say.

No, the point was that the link I included just had total numbers of personnel in each of the three services and didn't go into any more detail such as how many men and women make up the totals. Therefore, the percentages were simplistic in that they're just based on the figures in the first post as a percentage of total personnel from the link.

So in summary, Viagra has a genuine medical application and we don't know the genders of the recipients, or the reason for the prescription and the article does not take into account the relative sizes of the respective forces. Looks like it was a slow news day. Shame, it was an amusing thread.

Keep it up :ok:

I went to see my `quack` the other day after much wrangling with the receptionist about telephone consultations;
Doc;"What is so important,Mr S,that you have to come in person ...?"
Me "Doc , I need some Viagra for my condition when I get up in the mornings,I only need half a tablet"
Doc."What do you think your young `carer` is going to think,or say about that, she may be embarassed about it...?"
Me," I think she`ll be pleased about not having to pick -up pee-sodden slippers any more"
Doc.."Okay,just half a tablet a day,otherwise you`ll need a decorator to repaint the ceiling..."

Hat, coat, off to the chemist....!!
