Drone was a DJI Matrice 210, according to the TSB: MTOW 13.54 lb/6.14 kg.

For us SLF, the approach speed of a 172 is about 60 knots or 80 mph.
Assume that the drone was hovering (or would that be "the hover was droning"?).

If all drones could do was to hover, they would be of pretty limited use. The one in question is capable of 45 kts, though unlikely to have been moving that fast when it and the Cessna collided.

A hoverable UAV is of great utility for police surveillance or searches. The article didn't list it's airspeed, so we can assume Vmin.

It's a puzzling incident, usually they try to run into their own aircraft.

You can assume whatever you wish. I'm not assuming anything (other than the fact the the drone probably wasn't travelling at max speed, which we appear to be agreed on).
