I have seen photographs on twitter of an incident today at Dunkeswell where a Stearman has landed on top of a Cessna. No fatal injuries according to early reports.

Looks like the 60-year-old Skylane that's based there. What a sad ending to a long career.

The Cessna was a 182 built in 1959. The local rag has a photo.

Thought the Stearman might be one that featured in a recent AAIB report - similar USN scheme, different aircraft it seems.

Sad accident, good outcome though. Gather the 182 pilot is in hospital but sounds as though he is OK. Edit: a bit battered rather than OK but wanting to go home. Hopefully a matter of bruising than anything worse...

Tubby Linton's link comes with a useful video link - "what to do if you are involved in a collision!" :p

OK, it's a fair cop - I rounded down its age from 62 to 60, and I neglected to point out that a Skylane is a 182. :O

Yes, both based at Dunkeswell, possibly with the same owner although yesterday's event involved the US-registered one whose ownership is hidden behind a trustee, as is normal. Its G-registered stablemate is distinguishable by its blue rudder and wing-walking gear, but otherwise almost identical.

That picture will be certainly captioned as "a rare photo of aircraft mating ritual". Really unfortunate, but still extremely lucky, because I presume at least one of the properllers was operating at the time of the incident.

Are you sure we're talking about the same aircraft here ?

Founded in 1991, Eastern Stearman, Inc. is an aircraft trust corporation that helps foreign citizens register their aircraft with the FAA. The company grew out of the love of antique aircraft and warbirds. One source has 101 aircraft registered with them.

It's not the end, just a new begining. I intent to rebuild G-OMAG.

That's brilliant news Noel - and how is her pilot doing, trust he is home and well?

Regarding the rebuild, do parts have much in common with the 180?

Yes, that year of 182 will have many parts common with early 180s - if you can find an early 180 worth taking parts from....

Yeah, I was looking at the fin thinking how similar - identical? - it is to the 180. Precious few early 182s left in the UK, though I wonder if Paul Nalson has scrapped any and has parts amongst his stock at Caterham (if indeed he is still trading?).

He was at the beginning of this year.
