The four-person crew survived the crash without injury, but they had to wait for rescue after communicating their location back to base. A mission launched Friday evening to retrieve them ended in failure, but pilots were able to drop overnight kits to the survivors, the Navy said in a statement (https://www.navy.mil/Press-Office/Press-Releases/display-pressreleases/Article/2698224/navy-helicopter-crew-rescued-after-crash-near-mt-hogue-ca/).

The crew remained at 11,700 feet above sea level overnight.

Being an Army Chinook Pilot....we get used to such kinds of call outs for mutual assistance to our fellow services.

Not only will the downed crew ride home in a Chinook...so will their downed aircraft ride home on a sling underneath a Chinook. Just saying!

Ah yes....back when the US Army had the "break one....turn it in and get one free" attitude.

Which you Huey guys did quite often usually with some help from the locals.

Perhaps you should start a thread about the 135th.....it was an excellent Assault Helicopter Unit with a reputation for getting the job done.

Friend back at home was wounded during a Combat Assault while flying your Unit was shot through the shoulder....and was Medically Retired as a result having lost the use of that arm.

The Vietnam Helicopter Pilot Association (VHPA) is having its Annual Meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina beginning August 2nd.......I am sure I shall hear a few tales being told at the Bars and many Unit TOC's (Unit Bars).

You shall have to attend one of these things sometime!
