What do they expect, a marching band as they all troop aboard the aircraft, at least it wasn't scenes of getting in helicopters from the roof of the Embassy for the World to see.
US left Bagram Airbase at night with no notice, Afghan commander says - BBC News (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-57682290)
General Asadullah Kohistani told the BBC that the US left Bagram at 03:00 local time on Friday, and that the Afghan military found out hours later.

Bagram also contains a prison, and there are reportedly up to 5,000 Taliban prisoners left in the facility.

The Taliban have been advancing rapidly in Afghanistan as US troops withdraw.

General Kohistani said on Monday that Afghan forces were expecting the Taliban to attack Bagram.

Speaking to reporters at the airbase, he said he was already receiving reports the group was making "movements in rural areas" nearby.

"You know, if we compare ourselves with the Americans, it's a big difference," Gen Kohistani said. "But according to our capabilities... we are trying to do the best and as much as possible secure and serve all the people."

What a huge waste of lives and money Afghanistan was. Within days of all coalition forces leaving it will be back to a medieval, religious zealot regime controlled by a few and suffered by the rest.

History surely tells us it was ever thus.

Afghanistan: the graveyard of organised and disciplined major powers: Churchill understood that, as did the old British Army in India; the Russians did not understand it, NATO did not understand it, the USA did not understand it.

However, 10/10 for brilliant OPSEC over Bagram, way to go!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

What frightens me is the prospect of that happening in the west. Different religion maybe, but similar results

... and maybe, given European history, I should add the word "again" in there somewhere :(

Shows how on top of things the Afghan Military is don't it?

I was present when the US military pulled out of Somalia....holding my "Go Army.....Beat Navy!" sign as the last Marines pulled out!

The looting started then too....despite the Pakistani Military and other non-Western Militaries taking over security.

One. thing for sure was there was no looting off anything being protected by the Australian Military who were still there providing Logistical Support to the UN.

The ANZACS did exactly this in 1915 on departure from Gallipoli without any loss of life right under the Turks big noses....

From the Official Records:
"In just three weeks 150,000 troops together with artillery, stores, and thousands of mules and horses were loaded onto ships at night and taken to safety. They managed to deceive the Turks, and not a single soldier was killed. It turned out to be the most successful part of the whole Campaign."

Hear hear; yet another 'withdrawl' from Afghanistan.
AVM Tony Dudgeon was one of the first of the post war people who found that there was never a final solution and still it happens.

The emboldened enemy will be at the gates of Jerusalem within ten years .

Not many military’s can survive a twenty year Lingchi without running out of blood or treasure .

The only thing that might stop them now is China unleashing the Mongol hordes like Stalin did to Berlin . Although most of the Mongols share the same beliefs and may March with the Taliban on Jerusalem .
