Unfortunately I have come across one of these just so curious characters. I am neither current or ex -mil & don't have a lot of current contacts (could dig out a few)
This Gentleman is making a bit of pest of himself & for a few reasons it could be useful to get to the bottom of this (he using claimed rank/ years of service as a "character" endorsement if you like)
Claims RAN (Reserve) - Senior enlisted
Does anyone have any suggestions here; privacy law etc - taken very seriously in Australia & if you ring up without knowing anyone likely they would treat you like you are from Mars

Any suggestions appreciated ; publications etc ;

If he is using this for a reference, then call his bluff and ask him for contact details of his units/senior officers.

We have had no small number of posers claiming to be US Navy SEAL's.....and a polite word to a real SEAL usually results in a quiet word being had with said poser about the risks involved such false claims.

I passed along some photos of a fellow wearing a pair of ST 6 and Red Cell Patches by a Biker who had been neither to a fellow who had been assigned to both,.

Not long afterwards I received a photo of a rather tattered leather vest that had been run through a Wood Chipper sans said patches.

For sure....he never wore the two patches again.

Amazing. how that works.

Do theses persons claim any privileges in real life or is this more of some broken ego thing?

Even if he isn’t a Walt, if he is trying to justify his position/status/demands etc by claiming rank/years of service - don’t touch him. He is beyond learning. Find somebody else.

I was once asked about a chap who had conned the French authorities into awarding him a medal because he flew Lysanders in and out of France for the Resistance, carrying agents etc.

After a cursory check, it was found he was undertaking his flying training in Canada on VE-Day 1945!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nutty,

Based upon my Crime Scene training and knowledge of evidence collection....and seeing him alive afterwards.....sadly no....it was only his Vest with all manner of other patches adorning it that went through the Chipper.

A wee small birdie told me that he had been counseled about the the physical dangers of repeating the faux pas in the future.

Ask him what his service number was, if he's a walt he will be flummoxed and hesitate.

there is no boathouse in Hereford.
You mean they've taken Shed 16 away?

Just remember, if you are asked what is the colour of the boathouse in Hereford, there is no boathouse in Hereford.

"What induction course were you on? really? Do you remember the CPO who ran all the training from 1967 to 1995, what's his name, oh yes, Danny Hartford? You do? I just made that name up."

Hang on a bit NL. In Post 15, the 'pin' is in the back garden of my ex- in laws house at 47 Barton Road!!!!!!!!!!

They did have one of those rather swish two man canoes, with telescoped outriggers but this was in the days when the Hereford Hooligans were still at Bradbury Lines. There was also the Ulu Bar or some such in a pub in the town centre, which seemed to be a favourite watering hole.

Yes - they have quite a long coastline, I believe :ok:. They also keep themselves busy in the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean.....

......and apparently that coastline has a Wye River in Victoria, rather than a River Wye, so probably a boathouse of their own - colour unknown!:D
