Nice to see they have added metal into them from a downed Canadian Halifax.

though they are as clear as mud as to what they are.

Interesting story.

On 5/6 December 1944 a 426 Sqn Halifax and a 428 Sqn Lancaster collided at about 18000 feet en route to Soest. The aircraft, which probably locked together, fell in the Northamptonshire village in which I now live. The 14 crew: 12 RCAF and 2 RAFVR were killed.

On 5 December 2014 a dedication was held in the village and two trees planted. On Remembrance Sunday, the names of the crew are read out at the War Memorial, along with those of the villagers who died in either world war.

Particularly sad is that one of the flight engineers, whose remains were not identified, seems to have an untraceable family and even enquiries where he lived brought forth absolutely nothing. However, on the day of the commemoration and besides the Canadian Air Attache, we had people from Canada who made the journey to be present and these included the cousin of one of the crew.

Very moving
