Well done Zach for fighting them all the way - everyone knew that being in the cabin door - usually when winching - involved breathing exhaust fumes and particulates, you could see from the film of soot that it wasn't a nice place to work.
Usual slapdash reporting by the Daily Mail since Zach wasn't a pilot but that 'error' allowed them to include gratuitous pictures of Prince William who would have had precious little time operating from the cabin door.
Their 'history of the Sea King' is lamentably poorly researched.

What will this do for remaining Sea King ops like Norway and Germany, granted theyll soon retire fleets but even so. How many have been in the open door over the life of the airframes? Same for rest of Raf sarf and navy crew.

Unfortunately Crab, when you take another 12 months off work from your current employer (on full pay and allowing the rest of the blokes to soak up your shortfall), you can be forgiven in thinking this guy is lacking a spine, never mind bone cancer!

Why would a Sea King exhaust be any different from all the other helicopters such as the Wessex 5 first model with the short exhaust pipe which filled the whole interior with exhaust to the point where some passengers vomited. It wasn't long before much longer pipes were fitted. Wasn't the Sea King exhaust pipes at the back?

Nigel Osborn this photo (not the best) from the RCN shows the exhaust trail back across the cargo door, exacerbated when in the hover to put the fumes neatly into the doorway and the crew.
