Hello everyone,

Please do you know where I can find lists of all airplane operators in Europe (excluding the United Kingdom)? I'm looking for everything from flight shools up to airlines and everything in between - business jets, charter, aeriel survey etc

I'm not looking for helicopters though.

Many thanks for any help! :-)

There used to be a kind of World Aviation Directory listing just about everyone you could think off - it was pretty expensive but I recall the late Mike Jerram reviewed it and was quite complimentary about its thoroughness.

Presumably you need each country's list of AOC holders...?

Do you mean all operators or just airlines? If you want every aeroplane (English spelling) that may not be so easy. Your best bet would be to consult individual national registers.

Thanks all, to clarify I’m looking for a list of all companies that hire aeroplane (not helicopter) pilots. Are there lists of operators (as opposed to individual aircraft?)

Thanks!

Yes that’s how I got the list for the UK but somehow haven’t been able to google it for other countries. I assume they’re all on the internet but in their local languages? Ideally I was hoping for a centralised EASA list in English but I don’t think such a thing exists?

I found this which I think covers commercial passenger operators including airlines/charter/bizjets - https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/reg/2020/535/oj

If anyone know of a complete directory of pilot training providers (i.e. any companies that may hire pilots as instructors) please do let me know! :-)

Thanks,

MrS

Good find !

It looks pretty comprehensive, though beware that not all the entities listed are operators - there are manufacturers, banks and lessors included too, as well as both passenger and freight operators.

The list covers more than just the commercial operators. It includes all aircraft 'operators who performed an activity that is covered by the EU Emissions Trading Scheme, including private entities (and, as DaveReidUK says, some entities that are not aircraft operators at all, because the EU-ETS provides for the owner to be treated as the operator if the actual operator cannot be identified).

The list has always contained plenty of inaccuracies. Probably not that helpful for your quest.

I agree a central source of all AOC holders would be a useful thing. I doubt if such a thing exists, at least not in the public domain. Actually, I have never come across such a listing, even in 'official' circles.

Many thanks. Taking Spain as a random example please does anyone know where to find their list of operators with aoc’s? I’ve tried many googling permutations but nothing. Is it possible it’s completely offline? The Spanish translation for aoc (according to google translate at least!) is “certificado de funcionamiento aéreo” but that didn’t seem to find anything relevant.

Many thanks for your help,

MrS

Subject to some of the caveats that affect the use of the EU regulation discussed above, another approach might be to consider which organisations have ICAO designators in each of the EU countries. That would probably get you pretty close to the criteria outlined in post #1.

While the ICAO document in question (Doc 8585) isn't in the public domain, and costs $289 to buy from them, the FAA equivalent (https://www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/media/Order/FAA_Order_JO_7340.2K_Basic_w_CHG_1_dtd_12_31_20_For_Post.pdf ) is freely downloadable.

That Spanish list doesn't look complete with a number of known ag and heli operators not on there.

HI DaveReidUK,

I cannot access your FAA link. Is it just me?

Thanks,

The list of operators with an ICAO code, as suggested by DaveReidUK, is probably a better starting point than the EU-ETS report. However, there are quite a few non-commercial operators who have an ICAO designator, and a surprising number of commercial executive jet operators that do not (just to make life confusing!)
