Crazy might they be but they get my respect for having audacity to try something like this
Even if it get airborne briefly it would be very satisfying experience for him
some of them might be quite talented but lack resources and help

Most builders are building on limited budget.
During the building in case of mistake they can make another part.
Limited budget not allowing them to have proper helicopter flying lessons before testing of own helicopter.
One small mistake in piloting and they can make another helicopter again.

BTW not bad to follow and learn on other people efforts and mistakes...

This is how it all began.

Some of them looked interesting and I'm wondering if the individuals attempting to fly them had any pilot training because I'm thinking that with a licensed test pilot at the controls they may have flown. Others looked like an accident waiting to happen

The scene with the blades slowly rotating over the guy's head with an inch to spare is quite frightening.

I wouldn't want to be in the vicinity filming those contraptions. The person under the main disc is probably in the safest position should the main rotor shed bits. Until airborne of course. Then all bets are off.

Natural selection at work, Darwin would be proud. Entertaining to watch none the less.
