For the first time ever, the Thunderbirds and U.S. Navy Blue Angels debut a flight formation known as the “Super Delta” during a joint training evolution on March 2, over the Imperial Valley.After the 2020 very successful joint flyovers during “Operation America Strong”, both US Demonstration Squadrons will continue this incredible joint formation flying in 2021 at National Memorial Day Parade: America Stands Tall in Washington, D.C.

Pah.

Nineteen Macchis in the shape of a swan for the 150th birthday of Western Australia. Callsign "Delta Duck". Sadly my photo has deteriorated so much that I am embarassed to put it up here.

My logbook reminds me of 21 JPs in ER formation over the Royal visit to York's 1900th birthday on 28 June 1971..

When the USofA is 1900 years old, I feel sure that they will by then have worked up enough to be able to do a 21-ship formation flypast.

Of course, by then, that might involve the whole of the USAF, USN and USMC.....................

Mind you - even then - probably a "DT" formation..................

How many aircraft do you need to do that?

That flyby was actually at Hill in 1983, the last unit to operate the 105. Big party.

But yes most of those F-105Ds in the pic and a couple of the Fs are ex-Tinker aircraft that were transferred to the 466th in 1980 to replace their F-105Bs. There were no T-Birds or Blues in that picture, although the T-Birds had a short go with the F-105, which, no surprise, without high power binoculars proved pretty much unsuitable as an aerial demonstration aircraft, lack of nimble handling not withstanding. :}

I can remember a VC10 tanker captain in a group, when a pilot introduced himself as “hi I’m Thunderbird 5”, responding with “hi I’m obnoxious too”!

Surely Blue Thunder would be by far the best name?!? The rotary wing contingent might object to that (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Thunder). :cool:

He sounds like a lot of fun to be around.

An ex-RAFG Jag mate, he was still a VC10K co-pilot at the time - and had been enjoying the party room hospitality for quite a while!
