It’s very noticeable that this forum has very little to
day. Is that so as not to offend Big Brother? What a shame if that’s the case. I spent 23 mostly happy years in CX and to see what is happening breaks my heart.

Not just CX. The whole place. A shadow of what it once was and indeed what made it special.

The guys are on the back foot. Many are shaking in their boots, what with huge mortgages on worthless gin palaces.
Most guys went in early to sign up for cos18. Just to be sure.

the acrimonious and bitter pprune vitriol from some was replaced by pussy footed lambs to the slaughter. All very sad .

Once COS 18 was implemented, the career and any associated value was officially over. The worst aspect was the stripping away of any seniority rights. The company can now fire anyone at will, without cause. The job is now nothing more than an equivalent LLC position, only one that forces you to live in the most expensive city in the world. There can be no question of it providing any ability to provide long term for you or your families. Fear has replaced loyalty, and that is the saddest point of all. CX management have managed to get their cost structure where they want it, but at the cost of the people how helped make the airline what it was. Eventually the airlines reputation and name will be squandered along with its workforce. A true corporate tragedy for the ages...

Most all EU & US LCC's as  as they might be are seniority based.. CX flight crew have NOTHING other than the sycophants on the 3rd floor who will have no problem in using this to their advantage..

The question was more about the political background as I understand it.

You don't read much news in here simply because nobody knows anything.

The catastrophic situation of our industry is not related to previous local and independent political events. For expats Hong Kong hasn't really changed at all. I doubt the conversations are more upbeat across the industry..

Best place for any potentially true news is CX Secrets. The cabin crew and office workers seem to always have the inside information.

Sam Ting Wong;

The biggest problem for cx is idiots like you that bend over and take everything cx dictates. Strength in numbers always works, but idiots like you always brings the downfall. I find it amusing that the idiot is the one hurting the most from his actions. Enjoy your cos18 loser

The only factor that separates A scale from
Pos 18 is DOJ.

PS There is no clearer ( and more boring) sign of intellectual defeat than the helpless use of profanities.

Goodbye CX. I highly doubt that any feasible international flights will be happening for them this year. If I was in CX, I would settle my debt, cut my expenses, and get ready for the exit. It's not a question anymore of if it's coming, more a question of when it's coming. It is a shame, as they can now pick out of seniority etc of who is going. I feel a bit sad for the 5+ year SO's. 5 years of nothing to show for, not even a type rating or any significant experience (except tidying the bunk or carrying a cup of coffee).

At least the KA guys got their payouts - some moved, some not, some made career changes, some retired, some will fly again. They moved on. It must be terrible working for CX not knowing when you are going to get the cucumber up your bum, sleepless nights.

Good luck to everyone there.

Thank you for your empathy and deep thoughts!

One question please. What do I do if I don't have debt, enough cash to spend for decades, and still a paycheck of about three times what I would earn at a LCC ?

I would keep quiet about it !!! Many of us, myself included, have lost their flying jobs owing to market forces and Covid19 and are not even on furlough. I will likely never fly again.

I don't know much about CX, but if it is as bad as reported, I would get out if I could. The problem us pilots have is that we love flying the big shiny jets and going to exotic places with the crew, but this can blind us to how bad the company situation might be becoming; Or alternatively we put up with it.

If the situation is bad then at some point one has to say enough is enough. The trick is knowing when to call it a day.

Not quite the same thing; but two airlines I've worked for disappeared out of business from under me and I have been forced to move house and look for new employment. It can be done.

Correct Uplinker - most won't fly again. Especially the inexperienced, that's why in my post I referred to the SO's that I feel sorry for them.

STW - you edited your post twice, and I saw both. Maybe Piet was right.

if that was true, you wouldn’t still be in cx. If you had enough cash to spend for decades, a paycheck at a LCC out of the ****hole HK has become, your life would be three times better. You are the idiot that has made the cx job as a pilot what it is, you deserve it and I take great pleasure in seeing you desperately justify that it is good

Everyone has their own personal situation which dictates they have to bend over.

And there will always be volunteers to bend over.

It still boils down to - bye bye CX. Anyone not believing this must be living on a different planet. It's game over for them.

Uplinker, you are in the wrong forum. In Cathay we blame each other and/or management, never Covid or the market.

What do you want to say?? What??? Give me your best. You have one more shot! Original, intelligent, funny possibly. Go!

i think you will find everyone bent over and took it cause everyone signed across to COS18 didn’t they? If people thought there were better jobs elsewhere they would of left... what has happened at cathay isn’t in insolation, the same thing has happened all around the world. Cx is still a good gig comparatively at the end of the day.

No it isn't, CX is a crap job. And anyone not doing everything in their power to cash out, find a new career, or find a different flying job ASAP deserves the place.

Oh dear Sam - I have now counted a few times where you called fellow members either braindead or idiots? Very proffesional of you, Captain.

I quote this from the closed thread:

There won't be any more layoffs, maybe some unpaid leave, maybe bases will be closed. Vaccines have arrived, end of the year we will be back at 60-70% pre Covid.

What you smoking, bud?
