Well worth the watching - very very witty indeed. One of my all time favourites - Looked for it on DVD and never managed to find it. My 25 year old VHS copy is getting very dodgy.

IIRC it was first shown in April (Easter?) 1996. I only remember this because I taped it (remember doing that?) and took it over to RAF Laarbruch with me two months later and watching it again with some new mates I made in the Mess who hadn't seen it in BFG.
Hard to believe that is 25 years ago now!

Note that I have not bought anything from those sites, so can't say anything regarding availability nor reliability.

I bought a DVD copy several years ago from found that film - It was a home made DVD transposed from a VHS recording from the TV - the quality was very poor - worse than my own VHS copy.

In these days of CGI it is great that real aircraft were used in making this. At 46 mins there is the sequence of the attack by two Bf109s. These were genuine DB605 engined 109's, albeit one of them re-engined from a Buchon. The sequences were filmed at Sculthorpe. The initial takes of the head-on shot were lower and the pilots were asked to fly it a little higher so that they did not have to climb to go over the camera car (the cameraman was on the roof). For the shots around the buildings the pilots requested that a flag pole at the end of one of the huts was removed because it was a collision risk; the request was duly granted. What great fun days ....

Did anyone ever get their copy from the Company, I ordered mine back at beginning of March, first one never arrived, second one supposedly sent, never arrived, just asked for refund, does it actually exist I wonder, will wait & see if money return forthcoming, hardly a recommendation to order any more.
Just go to youtube insert "Over here" both parts 1&2 are available. If you have a tablet/pc and TV that supports Cast you can watch on the bigger screen. Cheers Pete.

I rather enjoyed this,having missed it when first broadcast,will go to youtube to look for part 2.I do wish,in aviation films they would stop saying 'over and out' when on on the R/T.

Thank you L-H for starting this thread; I had not heard of it until now. I did a search on Tube, found both episodes and was able to view on my main TV.
The airfield attack by the 109s is a great flying scene and, to say the least, is a very spirited piece of flying. Shows how much CGI has to improve!
As regards saying "over and out" on the radio: maybe that was what they did say "back in the day!"

Some great performances, particularly from Martin Clunes and the young American lead actor.
I wonder if its producer, 'Only Fools' John Sullivan, had a particular interest in the Allied air forces?

The father of one of my colleagues was great friends with John Sullivan; apparently he drew a lot of inspiration from friends and acquaintances, so it wouldn't surprise me if he knew somebody "in the pub" who had a fund of stories from WWII experiences, providing the germ of an idea around which he wove his particular brand of comic genius.
