Tuesday Feb 9th a helicopter flown by a local businessman hit the Dent du Villard at 17:20 shortly after taking off from the heliport killing two tourists on board. The pilot was badly injured.but neither he; nor the other two passengers suffered life-threatening injuries

RIP: it's a challenging place to operate from.

If still the same (was true as of 2014), fixed wing pilots need a mountain rating validated within the previous 6 months prior to operating from there. But helicopters had no restriction, I recall that a UK operator (now defunct) had an incident there back in 2008.

Just to add a little more information which may - or may not - be relevant to your post. The pilot had been previously President (?) of the Courchevel Tourist Authority and is currently President of Courchevel Business Association, so I would bet that he is local born and bred with excellent (ground) knowledge of the locality.
