So why are they so noisy and is it being addressed by the hierarchy ?

It’s not that the Texan is especially noisy. It’s just that they hang around over the island rather than moving out to sea or over less populated areas.

The locals are more used to the Hawks making a bit of noise on the way out and back rather than hanging around for the duration of a sortie.

It's because the propellor tips go supersonic when the pilot changes pitch.

Sorry: Wrong Texan.

There was a similar reaction from the locals when the C130s moved from Lyneham to Brize in 2011. Having tolerated the extreme noise from the VC10s for many years the inhabitants of Oxfordshire made a big fuss over the much quieter Hercules, in part from a change of flight profile (more circuit traffic) and also from the (often prolonged) ground running by the engineers.

Living in a quiet part of Wales, I would be willing to take my share to even it out.

'spose they could send them to Linton?
And to keep noise levels lower, they could use Elvington as an SLG.
