View Full Version : Boring !!!!

Fiction
19th Aug 2002, 11:08
Just seen a posting from Ballymoss saying he considers this forum boring !!! Lets try and add a bit of life here and see the history of who we have got perusing the boards.

Well, when it comes to Crewing and Ops, it tends to be the same swirl of people who move around the polished desks of Crewing and Ops offices. Let's have a little league on who has worked where and for which airlines. I wonder how many of ours (and your paths) have crossed. Doing this will obviously give away our vintage.

So I will start off. I have always been a crewing person, planning and or crew control...here is my list of companies and locations.

British Eagle International Airlines LHR (remember the BRITS)
BOAC LHR (the VC10 !!!)
British Airways Shorthaul (BEA) LHR (the dreaded Trident 3)
Saudia LHR ( L1011 Tristars)
Saudia JED (More Tristars)
Brymon PLH ( Dash 7 at LCY)
Brymon European (merger with
Birmingham European) PLH (BAC 1-11)
Brymon...again. De mereger from BEA PLH (Dash 8-300)
Emirates DXB (A380's !!!!! soon)

Looking forward to a reply ot two !!!

Well there you go.

Thanks for the replies so far...Look at all that experience!!! and versatility of people who have moved around between different companies and I suspect moving has not always been desired as airlines come and go. I know someone somewhere in that lot.

I still know of some of my contemporaries from the early 70's from BOAC who are still doing exactly the same crewing/ops job 30 years on at LHR with Big Brother (BA mainline). I must admit I am beginning to envy their index linked pensions, but have they enjoyed the bit in between as we have !!!!!!

Did you know that "Whispering Giant" was the nickname for the Bristol Britannia !!!

Yes the three of us are OK here in DXB. Fortunately the operation does not have a lot of the "in your face" problems you would normally have ie very few wx probs locally around the Middle East, no slot or ATC delays to deal with, strikes, except DAC, few tech probs, average age of the fleet being only 3 years old.

So I am looking at the Emirates network this morning and not one single delay is posted from any of the 60 destinations around the world we are operating to today with 43 aircraft.

There are other problems we encounter though of a different nature !!!

Hi Fiction,

There's a blast from the past.
Unfortunately I didnt have the brain's to move around like you, but here goes -

12 Years with Ops and crewing,

Birmingham European
Brymon European
Maersk

Not too impressive when I look at who's kicking around and the fun they've been having.

Still - for what its worth, Brymon was the best experience. A good change of scenery and a good bunch of people on the whole. (In the scheme of things a complete waste of time but thats life!)

Fiction
24th Sep 2002, 05:14
Yes Fred,

The Brymon European thing was a complete waste of time and very emotional for all staff concerned.

What was a complete disaster from the Brymon point of view was the abandonment of LCY after all those years of pain getting the operation up and running. Initially competing with London City Airways (BM), they dropped out and Brymon carried on until the merger. Now look how successful LCY is !!!

The Brymon folks went thru it ALL again with BACE and some have now ended up on Fraggle Rock.

But that is the business we are in and presumably that is why we do it. Again I know some folks in BA who have been grinding away at the same crewing jobs for nigh on 30 years...Who has had the more fun ????

Well if your guys are going to be doing DH8 maintenance for BACX, I can only pressume they are firstly paying you well, and secondly, given up on the fact that they can't do it themselves. A damn shame, seeing as a lot of the guys lost their jobs as a result of shut down in PLH, and major cut backs in BRS.

If I ever see you sat at the pointy end, when ever I fly back from the sand, I'll get off. I can clearly remember a flight from Filton many years ago, which has put me off flying with you for ever! :D

Anyway, look after AJ, I'm sure he will be fine!

WG

Received most of the Info regarding restructuring, and as a result was very glad of my move to the sand pit. Chin up, I'm sure something will come along soon.

A certain check-in/cabin crew member springs to mind.

FICTION

"Anyone out there worked for Air Atlantique, DC6,DC3 and Electra if we are not in this business for the money,
they would have to be an interesting company to work for?? "

It was interesting for a few years, but the lack of money and
the lack of appreciation that the Ops bods get really spoiled it.
I arrived with a bank balance and left with an overdraft. :(

Where have I been ?

Execair - GLA mostly, with a little bit of EDI and BHX for good measure.

Air Atlantique CVT :D

Air Atlanta - LGW to start, but then.........MAN,STN,MAD,AYT,PAR,JED,AMD,BOM

Euroceltic LTN

Cougar STN

Jeez, this post must have been good, I even re-registered to add my tuppence worth, and in an unprededented move put the Sun crossword down, well I was stuck halfway through anyway. (3 down, a jolly chap...... starts with G ends in Y................... I'll be bug***ed if I know !)

Business Air - Best time of my life, young free single, without a care in the world, with a skip in my step reminisant of a young Terry Scott, setting out on a career spent in pre-fabricated buildings with porticabins stacked up outside.

British Midland Commuter (Wasnt that the same company ?)

British Midland Regional - Hey gotta pad it out a bit !!

Suckling Airways - Hey nothing but good mamories (get it ?) but those benches outside did nothing for my arthrites !

ScotAirways (this is getting silly !!)

Eastern Airways - Oh yeah I did, Did I ? - Hey I didn't know how I got there, it was all a bit blurred after I fell off the ferry..........

Gama -

And finally........Railtrack (Eh? shurely shome mishtake)
Yes Railtrack, the moneys good, and hey Joe Publico never really seems that bothered if a train runs late or there are leaves on the line, or much else for that matter it wasn't that much of a wrench to give up on Aviation, I never really did enjoy the nights (what the f**k am I doing here then...........what they have internet in cells now ???......pass the soap Jeffery, there's a good chap) , but I suppose that for one day only, it would be nice if the 08:30 Leeds to London KingsX had a SIP of 08:45 and you had 4 phones ringing at the same time, and some f******g biscuit chucker is offering you some serious favours to get her out of doing a Guernsey night stop on a Saturday, and the boss is slagging you off for not waking him up during the night when he threatened to sack you for doing the very same thing the week before.........................Oh well back to the crossword, it wasnt really all a dream....................was it ??

Prisoner 459621x (on day release......obviously !)
