I wonder is it that their performance calculations are 'tight' but 'acceptable' and then ancient engines are maybe no longer pushing out the same thrust they used to. Then it ends up being damn tight like these videos, maybe? That or Ivan is just crazy

If you look at the you tube footage of Russian military pilots flying Mig 29s about 5 feet above a runway its not unreasonable to conclude that there is a somewhat different attitude to risk assessment in that part of the world on occasion. As has been pointed out the numbers might look Ok on paper but how old is even the youngest Il 62 .
But then maybe as some people say any landing you walk away from is a good one the perhaps the Russians have a version that any take off you can fly away from is a good one

Plenty of western airliners have done the same. Nothing specific to Russia or Russian aircraft. In fact only the same two videos of Russian aircraft crop up over and over again: The IL-76 and now the IL-62.

TIA or a World DC-10 took some Gatwick approach lights home to LA in the long hot Summer of '76... I remember seeing one or two scraping their way airborne off 08 from the spectator's gallery.

The one I was thinking of was going to Brazil for the grand prix with Maclaren and Eddie Jordan's team on board.
I heard that the load sheet did not show the 20 or 30 tons of cargo in the belly.
Our Flight Safety officer tried to find out about it but came up against a blank wall.
And then there was the "Bristol Cowboy".
