Hi all, so i;ve just been asked to move to Spain for a job and obviously I’m too late now to change my current UK issued EASA PPL, anyone have any idea on the subsequent process for transfer or re issue in a EASA state ( assuming a hard Brexit) which now looks likely !

Have you looked into changing it to an Irish one. Even better if you have a grandparent born in any place in Ireland an Irish passport can be applied for as well, but costs.

As a PPL is not quite so painful. If you have 100hrs TT then you do 2 written exams and a skill test to convert an ICAO licence to EASA which the UK will be on the 1st January. I am based in Jerez and can happily arrange this for you with Malta. Steer clear of a Spanish licence as they are a pain in the ass to deal with and will only communicate in Spanish for anything.

IAA have stopped taking SOLI applications so close to the wire unfortunately as we have been transferring all our students in the last minute rush to them. From January we are an EASA registered ATO as well as UK and will be issuing PPL from Malta and all professional license via Malta or Austro Control.

Another option would be to retain your UK issued license (which will become non-EASA by Jan 1st) and seek a "validation of foreign license" from an EASA state. But the earliest you can start this process is Jan 1st, because you don't hold a "foreign license" until that date.

A validation only lasts for 12 months and is designed to allow time for a commercial pilot to convert while still working. The UK automatically authorises ICAO licences to fly UK registered aircraft for PPL VFR privileges. I am not sure which other EU countries allow similar. I will check what is acceptable here in Spain later.

Thanks for all the helpful responses guys, i will probably try to get my ICAO license transferred to EASA as soon as practical in the new year, obviously there’s a few small hurdles but nothing too onerous. Wish I had been offered the job earlier in the year because then I could have applied via IAA and much less complexity !! Oh well here’s to the new system !

I assume my 61.75 FAA "on the basis of" might be some use in Europe as is theoretically an ICAO license.

It's not too late! The CAA will process your SOLI as long as they have the forms before the 31st. Speak to the NAA you want to transfer to and see what there deadline is. The Maltese and Dutch CAA have said the same as the CAA as long as they have the forms before the 31st they will transfer. The process might take into the new year and beyond the B-word, but as long as everything was valid when the SOLI was requested it will be. Only issue is you might not be able to fly until the new licence is issued.

Basically if you used to have a UK issued EASA licence but changed to a different state you can still fly G-reg until the end of 2021.

Be careful, people, there is some really obscure wording on that ORS. It basically says if your EASA licence was issued after 31/12/20 as a result of a SOLI then the validation is fine but if it was issued before.......

I thought that CAP 2017 was the validation referred to in ORS4 #1453, but it clearly isn't, as each is referring to Part-FCL licences issued at different times (before vs. after 1/01/2021). Clear as mud!

Any news here? Today I got a message from the UK CAA that I am one of those victims. UK CAA and Austrocontrol weren't able to complete the transfer, so UK CAA canceled the transfer request to Austria and offers a transfer to another NAA without paying the fee again. Only a few days ago the money for the transfer was taken from my credit card. I made the automated email status request and everything seemed fine and dandy - work in progress. Any advice from you guys?
Edit: I forgot to mention that this is about a PPL(A), including an English Proficiency Level 6 entry, a freshly renewed SEP rating and a LAPL medical until Feb 2022.

Hi guys, i gonna explain my situation in case someone can help me because i'm really frustrated and its a nightmare no only for me for everyone.

I am the holder of a CAA PPL (A) license obtained in Spain, attributions that the license presents
- SEP authorization (expires 07/31/2021)
- CAA class2 medical examination (expired on 07/24/2020)
- Does NOT present RT attribution
- DOES NOT present ICAO attached

I currently accumulate 58 flight hours in SE, and 11 flight hours as PIC

I would be interested in converting my license to an EASA license because i'm living there and i'm spanish too, after talk with Austro control and spanish authority too by email they told me that i need at least 100h total flight, I have only 58h because once i get my ppl my flight school didn't told me about the ICAO English proficiency test and RT and said that i need to wait until my SEP revalidation to add it on my license but nobody know sure, so without this i can't speak by radio and i didnt flight more since the ppl skill test. Right now with the brexit i'm just stuck with an CAA license living in spain and i can't flight with any european aircraft now even for my SEP revalidation

if someone can help me.
