Two pilots have been forced to eject from a fighter jet (http://9news.com.au/aircraft) at Amberley Airbase, south-west of Ipswich (http://9news.com.au/ipswich) in Queensland.
The incident involving an F/A-18 occurred near a runway about 2.30pm.

Interesting video on Ch9 just now.
What you can't see from the still of the blackened jet is that it's still trundling along on the grass - without the two occupants!
Not clear if under power or just the inertia built up during the takeoff roll.

Helluva hard landing for ejectees, looks like quite a crosswind and the jet only stops when the nose gear collapses.

It's not easy to see, but I don't think the nosewheel collapses - I think it runs into a ditch.
