Bristol Brigand

Hi guys,

I am gathering material for a book on the Bristol Brigand. Although I have the Squadron ORBs to form the basis of the book I would like to hear from anyone who flew or maintained the aircraft. The book will start with the Specification, design and development of the Buckingham/Buckmaster/Brigand and then move on to the operational side of the aircraft.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have a soft spot for the Brigand even though I’ve never seen one. And a few years ago I was in contact with a chap who IIRC was a navigator on Brigands. If you can pm me an email address I’ll let you have his email if it helps?

Have you tried the Aerospace museum at Filton? On their website they have an archive department [email protected]

Apparently they also have the fuselage of the lone survivor, RH746, which was found in the scrapyard at Failsworth although it's not listed on their website {stored?).

I thought it was at the Aerospace Museum in Bristol?

List I've seen has it as acquired by the RAF Museum in 2010, though whether it is at Cosford is another matter.

Certainly not on display at Cosford. Whether it's stored over the road, or in Stafford I don't know. Covid permitting, Cosford opens again next Saturday. I'll make some enquiries.

It was at Kemble in 2005 along with bits of a Bolingbrook.

Can't say I've seen it in the Filton store or at Aerospace Bristol either. It would certainly sit well in the museum, so let's hope it is indeed there.

RH746 is reportedly in Hangar 9 (store) at Cosford.

I was asking around at Cosford today, but without a definitive answer. Hangar 9 is the storage hangar, and not generally accessible. If I turn up anything, I'll post.

I now have a definitive answer. The Brigand is indeed in Hangar 9 at Cosford, but not in a very good state. Hardly surprising, since I gather it was rescued from a scrapyard!. However, the bits are under cover, and protected as well as can be. Not open to the public.

Thanks Dave. I'm only a volunteer at Cosford, and can't get access. I see the Valetta is there as well. Until the other day I had always assumed the Flixton one was the sole remaining example. Found out about this one a couple of days ago, and now have a picture.
