Looking online at the fares charged by our illustrious BA, I see that most European destinations can be reached from Heathrow for under £40 (each way)..... apart from Helsinki where it's typically closer to £240.
Even trying price comparison sites for air travel, the cost is significantly greater with other airlines than almost anywhere else in Europe.

Is there a logical explanation for this apparent anomaly?

Perhaps linked into the cost of living in Finland and the relatively small number of operators serving Helsinki ?

As always, "Whatever the market will bear" which is how many US companies sell goods in the UK, simply swapping out the $ sign for a £. If people then buy - that is the price.

I don't think BA are actually flying to Helsinki at the moment.
They will be selling codeshare prices on Finnair.
