Gday Again all,

Hope you are all well, (and have been throughout the COVID season),

As it looks I got my CPL at one of the worst possible times (July), I have become interested in complementing my license with that of a maintenance course or class just to get my head completely around any tricks of the trade in relation to the aircraft.

I managed to get some great advice from all of you on my last post, but am just wondering if anyone has any tips on maintenance of GA aircraft, as well as recommendations of potential courses around the Melbourne region.

Thanks all, and I hope the summer season is good to all of you.

Cheers,

VH reg A/C Schedule 8 (class B) is yr limit. RAAus owners can obtain an L1 authority to maintain their own RAAus A/C.

Firstly, learn everything you're allowed to do as a PPL:
50 hourly oil, spark plugs (learn how to clean them in a sand blaster too), tyre replacement. This, on its own, might save your operator hundreds of dollars in a single event alone.

Learn eveything else that you need to do in a 50 hourly.

Ask what is different to do/inspect on each aircraft for 50 hourly.

Ask what you can do to assist on a 100 hourly/annual, even if you are just opening inspection panels with a screwdriver

Absolutely right Absolute Fokker. While CAsA actively discourages pilots and owners from touching aircraft, except for Sched 8, getting yr hands dirty with Annuals and etc means one has a tad more insight into the workings. Could be handy one day.,,, and might even change the outcome of an inflight event.
Two things with flying.I found.....Know thy wx, and know the aircrarft...intimately. And if you look after it, it will look after you.

So just a question on that subject...
Sched 7 is clear about what you can't do, 8 says what you can. What about everything in between?
