That can’t be their answer to the covid calamity? How are you supposed to live on 40% income? Better to lay off the unnecessary. You’re basically crippling the entire bunch with a move like that. Sheesh.

It’s a No Pay Leave Scheme between 1st Oct through end of March next year, where your salary is deducted by 60%. That is from the letter.
I’m not sure if it’s voluntary or not, or if you are free to do whatever you want in those six months.

That sounds better than SLV in CX/KA

Ummmm the Oz base will most likely be on 50% for the whole year.......so far it’s 6 months and counting....

Out of curiosity have they had any redundancies thus far?

Yes, all who didn't take unpaid leave, for whatever reason.

Read in local news, no-pay leave scheme for coming six months, base salary and allowances to reduce by 60%. 99.5% of pilots joined the scheme. Two 3-month cycles, those who joined will work for a month then off for two on no-pay leave.

Around 400 in February.

How can it be called no pay leave scheme if they still pay you 40%?

Possibly the way forward for CX.

Minimum pay, in reverse seniority, for as many as required, for as few as possible, volunteers accepted.

Preserves the resources for a rebound and averts total financial desaster for the individual.

Sign me up for some of that as long as I can stay home. I’ll take a hit if I don’t have to travel unnecessarily to HKG and waste my time in quarantine whilst my fleet is grounded.

Hey, it’s better than redundancy I guess?

Maybe this has something to do with it:

HNA Group founder Chen Feng barred from luxury spending after failing to pay investor in lawsuit

I hope I'm mistaken, but you're suggesting that the least senior, and poorest paid, contribute first? Really thrust it on those that can least afford it...

Better to just stick to the contract?

You sounds like top half captain... But you should start visiting church and do some praying if you don't want to be surprised by hk labour law.

That's a contractual stipulation that I'm unaware of - this isn't a suggestion of LIFO.

I'd think a share of the burden should be absorbed throughout the crew body.

Surprises are for the naieve.
