I've been flicking through an old Civil Aircraft Markings book and came across this Viscount - serial no. 372 - which I wasnt aware of. I knew Fields owned BCZR and BGLC but not BDKZ. Does anyone know if she stayed long in the UK and what she was used for ? Thankyou.

Bought by Fields in November '75 from Ghana Airways, aborted sale to Mandala Airlines as PK-RVO and sold on to Skyline Sweden as SE-FOZ in August '76. Crashed in January 77 (https://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19770115-1). I imagine she did very little flying while with Fields...

Thankyou tread. A brief career indeed. Such a pity so many Viscounts came to grief before their time.

Note the crudely painted out Ghana Airways titles and star:

Sorry about that, I abbreviated the URL.

Who in this day and age sets up a website without a default page ? :O

Every picture of an -810 series I've seen, the nose cone is black whereas the earlier 800s it was the same colour as the fuselage. The 810's whole nose section looks more elongated and less bulbous than on the 800. Am I seeing things or was all this by design ?

Some 700 series - particularly the 700D's for the U.S. market had a similar radome to the 810.
I think many 800s had radar retro-fitted (particularly the BEA/BA ones), and this resulted in a much smaller 'cap' fitted to the nose rather than a full radome, and this cap was often painted in the colours of the fuselage rather than black.

I have seen discussions on modelling forums about Viscount noses and there appear to be at least three major shapes, with more possible variants. I can't provide you with a definitive explanation unfortunately. See here for a better explanation: https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234983706-vickers-viscount-nose/&do=findComment&comment=2021697

Thankyou both. That does make sense.
