Helo guys

Vor operates at frequency range of 108-117.95Mhz
Localizer operates at frequency range of 108-111.95Mhz
why they can't share the same antenna

Hi there are 40 loc channels in the freq band you mention. they have 50khz spacing. using only the freqs where the tenths of a megacycle count is odd. eg 108. 1, 108.3 is loc and 108.2 108.4 ect are vor. I hope this makes sense.

The LOCALSER antenna is directional, it forms a beam aligned to the runway.

The VOR antenna is omnidirectional and radiates equally in every direction.

The individual elements will be of a similar size as that is determined by frequency, but both systems are multi element.

Or do you mean the aircraft antenna?
Lots of older airliners use the same antenna mounted either side of the vertical stab.
Later airliners tend to have the LOC antenna mounted under the radome at the nose to ensure a more reliable signal for CAT III approaches.
