In Europe? Normally you would just check in with a new sector and state your callsign and the term "CPDLC".

thank's - yes in Europe , just wondering if you not add term CPDLC during check-in but just simply try to connect instead , it will be refused or accepted by ATC guy

Always seemed a bit daft to me. The whole point of cpdlc is to avoid radio calls...

Most european airlines seem to omit "CPDLC" call when checking in, it's not required by any regulations and my company's SOP clearly states that it is unnecessary. It's mainly carriers from far east that do that call.
It's actually the opposite - since CPDLC is mandatory, you're supposed to advise when unable, otherwise they assume you will connect.

No, I don't and no one has complained about it, so far.

I can't post links, but the first result on google for searching "Improved communication technology for aircraft europa.eu" will lead you to the references.

Show me a link that states CPDLC is mandatory in Europe.Try this: www.easa.europa.eu/the-agency/faqs/airspace-usage-requirements-dlscpdlc-controller-pilot-data-link-communication (https://www.easa.europa.eu/the-agency/faqs/airspace-usage-requirements-dlscpdlc-controller-pilot-data-link-communication)
"The DLS IR [Data Link Services Implementing Rule] is an airspace requirement and is applicable for all IFR GAT flights operating above FL285."
Since February this year AFAIR.

As far as I know it is not compulsory to state CPDLC. So I don't. It does not add any info for the controller that is not known, but it is additional radio clutter.

“CPDLC” call is not required, but some pilots add it to their call sign assuming it sounds cool... ATS already have a different radar marking for CPDLC enabled aircrafts.

Just connect, if the details are correct they will accept it.

Agreed, not required, ATC know you have a connection. As seventhreedriver says, the radar label identifies this. In our region only the Middle East airlines tend to "announce" it.

Ok, great, then I stand corrected. When CPDLC was newish, we heard it all the time. Sadly, my aircraft's CPDLC protocol is not compatible with our European CPDLC-servers, so we cannot use it.

I do not announce it. As it has already been said, the whole point of this is to reduce comunications, not to increase them.

Also, it already shows up to the ATC screen, so why would you need to anounce something they already know? I think it is not necessary.

Thanks for the link but I understood it was delayed.
The link provided doesn't really show it is mandatory from a specific date unless I missed it.
When they mention "delivery" flights, is that from manufacturer only or is it a wider spectrum such as "delivery to new owner, or delivery to an MRO" etc etc ?
There is a list of exemptions to which many airliners, B737-800, B757, Airbus A320/1 are exempt.

The European CPDLC-ATN mandate is delayed until Dec 2020 as per EU 2020/587. There are quite a number of limited and permanent exceptions for various listed aircraft types.

I think you'll now agree, CPDLC is not mandatory in Europe.

On return flight from the Eastern Med a few days ago, as PM on that sector, spent at least the first third trying and failing to log in. We were back in ‘Western’ europe before we succeeded. I can’t really compare to previous experiences as CPDLC was new to me just before being furloughed in March and I’ve only just returned.

@Jump Complete, as you mentioned Western Europe, where exactly. All of the Atlantic coastal countries work with FANS1 and ATN, the rest of Europe only uses ATN, is your aircraft capable of both FANS1 and ATN?
