Hi colleagues, does anyone have any experience with Penny&Giles D51600 pitot-static tester? Is it suitable for the normal scope of testing on light unpressurised aircraft? If not, what other testers can one get for a reasonable price (I'll be buying it out of my own pocket)?

Hi,
It is a superb little unit for doing basic leak checks of a pitot head or a static line or for simple instument checks. Very compact and portable and once you have entered and saved the test parameters it is very simple to use, literally press the green button and wait for it to say Pass.

Its been a good few years since I used one but I think it can only do pitot or static output, if you are going to need both applied to the aircraft i dont think this will work out. I paid £150 for it off ebay at the time, they seem to be going for 10 times that now, just checked. Looks the same, military surplus, brand new never used. The battery pack on the one i bought died and the replacment price was silly so i just split it open and soldered new cells in.

Thanks a lot! Can it only do leak testing, or can it also be used for altimeter and ASI calibration? Would you perchance have a manual for it lurking on your bookshelf?

The only thing I have currently available for calibrations is a huge and heavy steel box with a crank on top, affectionately known as 'coffee grinder'. I don't mind driving with it, but it's unreasonably heavy to fly with.

NutLoose , I've seen that one, but D60253 and D51600 are two completely different instruments, aren't they?

Yes, you can use if to verify or calibrate an asi or altimeter just not at the same time. I dont work at that location anymore so i dont have access to the manual, i will check if there is electronic copy somewhere but i dont recall seeing one.

Hi all,
Can anyone help me with my D51600 maintenance page where it reguires code to enter into the menu? It is mainly for checking and calibration of the unit. If someone can tell me the code for opening this menu, I will be grateful. Thanks in advance
