Two friends independently told me in the past couple of days of an Arrow replica being built at Springbank (CYBW), my local GA airport. I am amazed I had never heard of it before.

Sixty percent may sound small, but it is as big as a CF-18 - the Arrow was a very large aircraft.

Was it the Arrow that Avro fired models in to a lake for tests. What I mean is they fell in the lake after the test.

Just reading how Kelly Johnson got hold of load of 3" (or whatever size) rockets from the USAF to test models of the F-104 in much the same way.

Hadn't realised the replica is to be a flier - blimey!

Wasn't there a 100% scale non-flying replica built at some stage?

Perhaps this will inspire some enthusiasts in the UK to build a 60% TSR-2 (the BAC one, not the Fairey).

While I wish them well with their project, I'll be stunned if it ever gets to fly.

The bit that is difficult is finding a competent 60% pilot to fit the 60% cockpit......

Yes but that's a sad story

The bit that is difficult is finding a competent 60% pilot to fit the 60% cockpit. No problem at all, I'm the right size. Competent, well that's another question.

As long as you are 60% competent, you should be fine!

I bet all the difficult moments will come in the 40% segment!

Thanks Zaxis. It is indeed a sad story and very upsetting for the folk who built it. I would have thought they could have found somewhere to exhibit it but large airframes are difficult to place and maintain.
