I did get to see the Antonov An-225 parked on the tarmac in Seattle once. Now THAT was a giant airplane. Missed seeing her takeoff though. I would have loved that !

We all know that to the media anything bigger than a Piper Cub is giant. I once paraphrased Douglas Adams on the subject when I mentioned the A380 in a Facebook post:

When the An-225 came into Brize, they had to cut back trees outside the airfield!! (The wings overhung the fence!!!)

No such problem when it operated from Farnborough, although they did manage to break the towbar one day (or was that the An124?).
Now where can you get an Antonov towbar in Europe at short notice?
By the way, the taxiway in the photo was designed for B47s and B52s so it's a bt wider than normal!!

I once rustled up an 8ft spanner for a P & Wh Twin Wasp on a DC3 from a local market in C Nigeria.................... it took a while to describe what we were looking for but once the local entrepreneurs figured it out it only took 20 minutes to find it - presumably it had "not been thrown away as it might be useful one day"
