Appreciate that local flying frequency has reduced but interested to hear from a 'local' if there are any particular 'hotspots' to avoid when buying a house in the area.
Feel free to PM. Have overlaid the MIL AIP but does anyone know of any other plans for the base now that Waddo has been chosen for the Reds

I live in Bedale, a couple of miles west. I've been here for the last 45 years. Honestly, you would hardly know we have an Air Force operating out of Leeming today.*** I've had 25 years (1975 to 2000) service in RAF North Yorkshire, with the odd sortie further afield when Manning found me. From Jet Provosts and Bulldogs to Tornado F3's. In comparison, today's RAF North Yorkshire is graveyard quiet. However, obviously avoid the approach/departure lanes. Scruton to the North and Pickhill to the South in particular. Although Scuton has an excellent pub, alas Pickhill is now publess. Also, remember to set your wristwatch back thirty years.

***OK, things may change, hopefully.

......so the Nags Head is no more?? Shock, horror. It used to be our go-to destination during the rebuild in 1987, especially on the frequent evenings when the contractors put a digger through the main power feed and it was a rush to beat the horde and get an order in for food.

PG, alas no. The last Boynton, after many years and much effort, finally managed to sell the place. It is now a Chinese Restaurant/Takeaway. So sad in so many ways.

What taxydual said. My mum has lived just south of Thirsk for nigh on 70 years and she says these days the silence is deafening.

It’s not all lost though, Raymond’s lad has the pub at Sandhutton which has a good menu.

I had to read that post twice! I live just to the South of Leeming directly under the approach and I have to say, it's just not that busy or noisy. I just hear enough to let me know that they're there but it is in no way intrusive. A mate lives in Scruton.......it's noisy there but he doesn't mind and nor do I when I visit...........and yes, it does have a good pub! Feel free to PM and I'll tell you what I know.:ok:

My son lives a mile or so west of Kirklington. Yes, they (and the dogs) hear aircraft occasionally, but not intrusively (unless there’s major night flying, which bothers the dogs). When we’ve visited, you wouldn’t know Leeming was there.

So sad to hear that the Nags head is no more. Many happy memories of lock ins back in the 1990's when Edward and Raymond were running the place. Also of quite a few magnificent RNETS leaving dinners in the dining room. I wonder what happened to all the cut off ties in the Tap Room?

Ah yes, the half ties. Brings to mind the night in 1989 that eng wg took the visiting Canadian Chief Engineer and AOEng HQSTC (Mike Alcock) there for an informal evening, thinking that they would be fed up with formal evenings from all the previous station visits on their tour. They both ended up donating half their ties to the cause. The look on the staish's face, who had been dubious all along, was something to behold. His CBE turned up at the end of his tour though.

Thanks one and all
Off for a recce on Friday so will let you know how it goes.
Nice house for sale in Scruton but crossed it off the list; not due to possible noise but due to the name ;-)
