Glad to see someone has a heart. The sorry old comet at LGW has been joined by a Nimrod for a couple of days. parked up together, how sweet. Makes a change from the normal office view though eh!

You'd better keep an eye on it in case they come and chop it up like the poor old Comet and turn it into the aeronautical equivalent of a garden gnome.

For a minute there I thought we were talking Laser Guided Weapons. Swap out the searchlight for TIALD. RAFs' biggest bomber strikes again.

It'd give St Tony something to lend over American cousins when they run short of B52s.......

Is there a reason why no one's had the idea of filling a Nimrod's bay with 1000 pounders? Is it too risky sending it over targets?

Max weight. Couldn't get airborne with bombs AND rations. :D

Been done. Its dropped 1,000lb retards, CBUs & GP.
Assume to avoid pie jettison.

Were they robbing spares from the Comet then?

There are three reasons why it does not take place:

Embarrasment for the fast jet world - better accuracy longer range and larger payload.

No fridge - The rations start to perish, so we fly from the frozen north of Jockland.

Pilots - we have ours well trained, if they started getting all excited they start throwing the beast around and this might wake the old AEO up down the back and they get very grumpy.

No2 is the only reason Nimrods are still at Ice Station Kilo:D

Gainesy,

When you say '1000lb retards' do you mean overweight and intellectually challenged (aren't they all!) AEOs/AEOps?

Also, don't they object to being evicted mid-flight?
