US helicopters swoop on sunbathers

United States and Italian officials have launched a joint inquiry into reports that US military helicopters swooped low over a packed beach so that the crew could get a close-up view of sunbathers.

The American embassy in Rome has admitted that a number of people on the ground were slightly injured when winds whipped up by the choppers sent beach furniture and umbrellas flying around.

The helicopters were said to have been on a Nato mission from Germany to the Balkans when the incident took place over southeastern Italy. The helicopters are said to have slowed down as they approached the beach, allowing the crew to wave at people.

Full credit. I have done the same thing myself, though tis much better to fly just off the beach. Get a better viewing angle.

Better still try it at night on goggs. Obviously with no sun to bathe beneath, other outdoor activities creep to the top of the list.

Once upon a time there used to be and may still be a nudee club just up from Newark on the Trent (RH side). It was in a low flying area and was visited frequently. At 250 ft, 200+ kts ones imagination was more active than ones eyes but we used to get plenty of friendly waves so at least you knew you were on track.

We used to run a 3 star and a 5 star trip along Nisi beach in Cyprus, although the 5 star was very close, the smooth hum of the artouste in the Allouette merely raised the heads of the scandinavian girls to the required angle!:p
