Amazing accomplishment for a platform originally from the mid-1970s. Good on 'em.

I've been reading about how the AAH program came about and how the Apache was developed in the "Howard's Whirlybirds" book.

If that’s impressive, how about the C-130? First flew in August 1954 and still being manufactured today!

Ha! I see you your C 130, and raise you the B 52. First flew 1952. Ceased production 1962 with 58 still in service. ;)

I think the B52 will pass the century mark - beyond belief.

Er, yes. Still in service but not still being manufactured. (Which was the point).

If you want to stick with helicopters, what about the CH-47 - first flight in 1961, still in production.

The same can be said for the TU-95 “Bear” Bomber, produced from 1952-1993, over 500 built and still in service, recently received a bunch of upgrades and expected to see 100 years in service, and currently very active on long range strategic flights, amazing.

I guess types like the CH-47, B52, Tu-95 and C130 but also F15, Tornado IDS and IL-76 thank their long service lives to excellent suitable design, but also lack of an acceptable, 1-1 replacement. And I guess the end of the cold war / russian Threat. 2500 AH-64's is an awful lot !

16,000 + Huey's with the last UH-1Y being delivered in 2018 is a slightly larger number.
