According to EASA/FAA, the GV is a commun type rating for the G350 / G450 /G500 / G550. Is there some sort of CCQ to get from one type rating to another, for instance from G550 to G650 ? Or is it a full course again? (with a huge cost involved…)

They are all the same type rating but require differences training. You need to follow the Gulfstream Operational Suitability Document (OSD) requirements for differences training, this is what the type rating courses are written against. The OSD are not available from the internet, you have to get them from the Original Equipment Manufacturer and they only give them to owners or training providers. If you have an aircraft you can get a copy or FSI CAE might give you a copy.

It was the full initial type rating for me. Despite looking a bit the same, the G-V and G-VI different systems and avionics wise.

just to be absolutely clear. The G350/G450/GV/G500(old one)/G550 is one type rating endorsed with G-V and the G650/G650ER is another type rating endorsed with GVI. So, two different type ratings.

I’ve never come across anyone who did the abridged (shortened) conversion from G-V to GVI. Not to say this is not possible.

Originally when the G650 came online, Flight Safety was offering an abridged training curriculum (I think 2 weeks). This was offered to pilots that had previous G450/G550 experience. However this was short lived as there was some steep learning curves when it came to the flight controls since the G650 is fly by wire. Now it is standard for all seeking a GVI type to attend an initial consisting of 28 days+/- depending on sim availability no matter how much previous G450/G550 time one may have.
