Zenith 601 with Subaru engine.

Returned to Yarram with smoke in cockpit. Photo on news shows an oil covered underbody.

This incident shows how important it is for those flying home-builts or similar ultra light aircraft, to keep current on practice forced landings. Glide ratios may not always be the same as in a Cessna 172.

Survived part cause of the very type of plane they where in, an RA light weight slow stall speed machine, that's why 600kg Max is warranted! That would scare the sh1t out of anyone!

Apparently the poor pilot wasn’t injured until he fell out whilst trying to get down.

Bloody stressful situation hanging from a tree facing the ground with your grandson beside you. Your biggest fear is what your son or daughter will say or do to you.

I read 'jungle Jim' wasn't the driver, the kid was.

I'm guessing the passenger was thinking "He's really not going to make it over these trees". Meanwhile "OK Boomer" from the front seat.

When the fan stops, who drives the aircraft.. the builder/owner pilot or the grand-son?
Tough call until it happens to you!

How in the hell would you get that thing out of the tree?
A bit of googling reveals all, there is a company that specialises in it.
