Has any body got any information about the evolution of performance regulations for large transport aircraft? I used to have a book about this but lost it years ago
I' d particularly like to know ehen perf A was introduced and what preceded it

I can't back this up with evidence, but I believe the beginnings of Perf "A" stem from work done by a "Hazel" Hazelden, who was on No 2 ETPS course back in the forties. He introduced the idea of V1, figuring that there was no need to die if an engine failed. He was a test pilot with Handley Page, and finished his flying career with Air Anglia on the F27, where I was fortunate enough to have him teach me a few things about flying.
Thanks Herod. Sqn Ldr Hazelden flew 748s for Autair at one point I believe, so he flee all three Dart powered proposed DC3 replacements

bean: If you can find it, have a look at the time Hazel's engine broke up on the original Dart Herald. He was also very much involved (along with "Spud" Murphy) in the development of the Victor. In fact, I believe that at one time Air Anglia/AirUK had more ex test pilots than all the other UK airlines combined. Apologies for thread drift, but we are talking development.

That seems to have been a recurring problem on the Dart mark 7. The Emerald Airways accidrnt at Stansted, and A Channex F27 on departure from Jersey.
