UK Age 60 Limit

Does the 60 years of age limit apply in the UK for single pilot helicopter operations? I know it did years ago but has this changed.....asking for a friend!

Yes - 60 for single pilot commercial operations. 65 for multi pilot commercial. It has been challenged by individuals but they lost.

I saw EASA mad a report that seemed to illuminate a pathway for CAT SPH beyond age 60 subsequent to extended medical examinations. Does anyone know how the rest of EASA land is considering this? At 57, I am asking for me.

An EASA Research paper recommended lifting the limit to 65 for single pilot CAT operations. Same report recommended leaving multi pilot limit at 65. EASA Research Paper (https://www.easa.europa.eu/sites/default/files/dfu/EASA_REP_RESEA_2017_1.pdf). EASA is looking at options though but no where near rule making yet. When it becomes the CAAs thing next year...who knows?

Having failed to change the Age 60 law at the industrial tribunal in 2006 I went on to fly "aerial work" until a month after my 70th birthday. This included filming the opening ceremony from overhead the stadium at the London Olympics. I was fortunate to be able to access a great deal of aerial work flying cameras for film and TV nevertheless my annual income halved. Still, better than no income at all!

My point is that safety was never compromised due to my age. I undertook some of the most challenging jobs of my career and believe my age and experience was a positive advantage when dealing with movie directors looking for the spectacular shots.
