I upgraded my Google Earth to G E Pro. My old W7 wasn't up to speed with the latest gizmos so it wouldn't work. Eventually I found an site where I could download the old Google Earth so now it is running. There are a couple of things that I miss from my previous one and I cannot find out how to reload them.

Years ago someone on this site showed everybody how to put all the wartime airfields on GE and they stayed there as a tool.

The other thing is that the history tab only goes back to 2008 and I want to go back further like what I used to.

Has anybody any ideas?

Attached is the KMZ file in a zip file - pprune didn't like the KMZ ???

KML and KMZ are interchangble. Z is a ZIPPED version of L. You can unzip it with any unzipper and get the L which is a MUCH LARGER text file.

What you need are placemark files which come as .kml files and many are available online

These are added as follows:

Import your KML map data into Google Earth

Using the web browser on your computer, open Google Earth.
On the left, click Projects .
Click the New Project button. To add a file directly to your computer, select Import KML File.
Select the KML file you'd like to view.

Google search will reveal plenty available for download

e.g. Downloads - UK Airfields (http://www.ukairfields.org.uk/downloads.html)
UK Airfield Catalogue (http://woodair.net/UK_Airfield_Catalogue/ukmenu.htm)

Once loaded into Google Earth, these overrides can be switched on or off using a tick box in the side panel under "places"

Is that supposed to be an exhaustive list? No Silverstone for a start, opened in 1943

Silverstone does not appear to be in the list I posted. I have no knowledge of WW2 airfields.

I think that the Rotary Club of Cambridge are aiming for a complete list of WW2 airfields. I have no connection to them however I think that they would be interested in any contributions. See the web page for some details including a contact.

Thank you everybody. I have all the wartime airfields on and also the photo maps that go back to 1945.

There are also two wikipedia pages

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Royal_Air_Force_stations

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_former_Royal_Air_Force_stations

They have links to articles about the stations where such articles exist. At least some of the articles contain coordinates.

Another question.

When I zoom in a place the visuals rotate to try and give a ground level representation. This screws you up when you want inspect something closely because it distorts the image. I have tried unticking the boxes but no change.

What's the secret to change it back to flat close ups?

I have tried unticking the boxes but no change.
Did you try:
via menu 'Extra' -> 'Options' -> 'Navigation' tab -> on the right side the 'Navigation' radio-buttons, click 'No auto tilt when zooming' (<=approx. translation)

Thanks to all of you. Until now I did not realise that something was missing from Google earth! That's great now.

I didn't ask but thanks for this. Was annoying me too.

Maybe I'm dense but I cannot find a menu bar on mine. I tried every button but none of them say 'menu' or 'extras'.

You did say that you are using an older version of GE. It is likely in there somewhere. Google with the version number or post version here.

I found it in Tools/Options/Navigation in my version.

Why do the software folk think we all want their preferred "options" and insert then in updates and then require us to turn them off instead of putting them in place and letting us turn on what we desire. Not just GE - almost every application.
