Eric Morecambe's classic phrase, "The man's a fool", sums him up rather well!

That's a shame. Doubt that it was done with any acrimony, but still....We have some of the same stuff on this side of the pond. In the end....There is no excuse for not removing it and apologizing.

Park the outrage bus. Very measured comments and interesting family detail from Campbell in the link below.

Well documented that he's always had an issue with the demon drink, maybe he's fallen off the wagon? He does look a bit pissed.

I never liked him, and after that pathetic self-promotion ‘joke’ he should be erased from memory.

Sadly the OH and I were talking about him yesterday, in the context of Johnson/Cummings and Blair/Campbell ... the unelected eminence grise forever lurking in the background and pulling strings.

Answer to thread question - No !!! ... and no intention of doing so.
However there is a sense of ironic amusement at the furious response by the 'faithful' raging at a skit of one self-seeking wazzock making fun of another similar. It's a notable feature of Tory values that humour should consist of laughing at others - never oneself ... curious trait but consistent with lack of both empathy and sympathy..

It’s not that he is taking the mickey, it is how he does it by degrading the GSM down to a point where it is a target of jest and he makes it appear worthless, when so many people in Northern Ireland and elsewhere have died in earning that medal.

Nutloose has it right. Lots of people fought (and died) for that medal, and to have someone degrade it in that way is shameful. Perhaps lockdown has unhinged his mind?

I doubt it, he was arrogant and sneering before and still is. I've not been keen on the media frenzy about Cummings lately, they've had their say highlighted his short "cummings" and can't let it go, I say this as someone who regarded Cummings in the same dim light as Campbell. But it'll be a cold day in Hell before Emily Maitlis gets a Bee in her blond mop about Campbell's caper.

Sorry, what are you all upset about? I've got a few medals, including that one and I couldn't identify anything in that video that was having a go at me or anyone else that is or has been in the armed forces.

Anson put yourself in the shoes of a widow that only has that medal to remember her husband by.

it does make you wonder why he has them in the first place.

I think it indicative of what he really thinks in that Campbell appears to accept the points raised by HFH but refuse to acknowledge Mercer just because he is a Conservative minister. Either his "skit" was wrong, or it was not. I feel his response to HFH is mostly a damage limitation exercise on Campbell's part rather than genuine contrition.

Good question. Some folk seem to be permanently outraged - often Daily Mail readers. I agree with you Anson, doesn’t do anything to denigrate the services.

some people get so pathetically outraged that they end up posting twice at the start of a thread.

It is his deceased brothers GSM, his brother served as a piper in the Scots Guards.
To say he was disrespectful of military and in particular NI veterans,is patent 5hite! It may not have been an amusing pi55 take of BJ and Cummings and may have been in bad taste, but disrespectful,no.

I have. And I still don't think it's in any way offensive. Mike Myers' "Fat Bastard" wore the uniform of the Scots Guards I think. You should watch the movie: you might realise how ridiculous you're being.

"put yourself in the shoes of a widow that ONLY has that medal to remember her husband by"
.
Somewhat partial view of Service family relationships made in order to support a ridiculous outburst. N I wasn't the only place to incur casualties - we managed quite a few in Aden, Cyprus, Far East etc. it goes with the military territory and during my 35 years in Service, the GSM was generally regarded as the 'NAAFI queue' award. Still, if it really excites you that much, a re-examination of values might be in order!

I'd love to know which clasp that is, and What (if anything) in engraved on the underside of the full-sized!
That might identify the idiot who loaned it to him, or if he bought it online as a prop!

Campbell is a **** as got us into a war (that killed friends) on a ****ing lie.

Why can't you post this sort of nonsense in Jet Blast if you must.

If it is his brother’s medal, isn’t it his brother he is disrespecting most?
Does anyone else use medals of their deceased family members in “comedy” sketches?

What an obnoxious individual he is. On the plus side:

1. He knows that he will never hold a position in government again.
2. He knows that the party he supports may well not get into power again in his lifetime.
3. He knows that he will not be getting a well-paid job in Brussels with his old boss.
4. Somewhere in his head he has to live with what he did in 2003.

It pleases me that these are the realities he wakes up to every day.
