View Full Version : Increasing Controlled airspace EGNT

Plans are afoot to increase Class D airspace around EGNT. Airways from POL to NEW and from NEW to ?SAB are to be established possibly in Spring next year.

Apparently this will improve the efficient utilisation of airspace. I bet they said that at Luton and Stansted, and try getting anything more than a limited FIS in the tiny bit of class G left.

The new CEO at Newcastle International has moved from Bristol and is rumoured to want more carriers in. Apparently Bristol GA suffered badly.

Could be very bad news for GA and training in the North, and is also likely to squeeze military training sorties.

Conversely could be very good news for safety of passenger flights.

Having had a serious number of category A and B airprox in the area over the last few years this seems the minimum the CAA / MOD can do under their duty of care to all in the air.

Class D airspace is hardly restrictive as a rsponse to some life threatening situations.

About time.

Their Airships could consider upgrading class F to class D airspace.

The GA and training fraternity are just as concerned about safety as commercial operators. Lets face it they have a very direct interest usually.

The airpoxes which you allude to almost all involve military and commercial traffic. Certainly the airprox board has called on more than one occasion for a review of military ops around the present New CTR/CTA.

Whilst it may be that further airways may help, it is not necessarily so, there continue to be regular airproxes in the London TMA.

One area to look at might be creating airways over the North Sea to serve NEW, which would have no significant effect on reducing UK Class G airspace for GA and training, but would meet the needs of commercial traffic.

The issue of the proximity of tactical miliitary training at Spadeadam is still not addressed by the creation of any of the proposed airways.

When the TypHoon enters RAF service, it's going to need some very large areas in which to train.....

Don't forget that substantial areas of the North Sea are used for both AD and AAR training. Much of which frequently (due to timing or weather constraints) takes place outside promulgated areas.

Charlie32. I don't think anyone has yet proposed new airways. the proposal is reported as Class D airspace - so it is available for all operations.
