That seemed to start yawing the second it lifted off - why wouldn't you just smack it back down on the ground straight away?

Анадыре = Международный аэропорт Анадырь = Anadyr UHMA DYR Ugolny Airport, which is a mixed civilian-military airport on the Bering Sea coast in the Far East Federal District.

There is another video going around of the aftermath including the casualties. I'm not going to be the one who puts that up.

Mi-8/Mi-17 family have had a ridiculous number of accidents killing a ridiculous number of people. The fact that they were built in huge numbers and have done a huge amount of work across the world isn't enough to explain the attrition rate.

More detailed video. Also reports on two further crashes in the last month.

Senseless accident that basic airmanship should have prevented. The wheels shouldn’t even have left the ground!

Sounds like an engineer doing a ground run without due caution.
It happened at Oakey circa 1973 - 4 brave souls using body weight to hold down a Bell 47 for a power check.
as it started to lift off they all bailed !

Almost normal. There have been recent years when over 100 people have died in these.

how does it sound like that? I thought it was three crew and a technician on board

Hmm missed that bit of info re crew
when I used to fly the S61 our mechanics were cleared to do engine runs so maybe the 3 were technicals ?

a standard crew is two pilots and a flight engineer, so looks more like a maintenance check flight to me. I guess it failed!

No amount of maintenance now is gonna fix it, regrettably.
