About 1630hrs this afternoon I noticed a formation of 4 single engine a/c, different types flying at about 3000’ in a North Easterly direction skirting the eastern edge of the Southampton Control Zone. They were in close formation and the lead A/c looked similar to a Russian aerobatic a/c. Any ideas about what they were and where they were going? Did not show on Flightradar 24

I saw three of what I think are the Yakovlevs Display Team getting airborne somewhere a little further west a few days ago - Compton Abbas or Henstridge maybe. They have recently been demonstrating sky typing (https://www.yakovlevs.com/skytyping/) with 5 aircraft but I would have thought conspicuousness would be important for doing that!

Lead a/c was a Nanchang CJ6 + 2 x Extra 330s and an RV4 , heading home from Sandown IOW...wherever home was!
