Hi,

quite a while back I had some great help with my questions about a connector for my my P type mask (thanks Stitchbitch for sending me the correct connector). This time itīs a question about a US helmet/mask setup......

On Monday a friend at work gave me a nice US Navy 1998 dated Gentex HGU-68/P helmet with an unused MBU-5P mask, I have no idea why these were in Norway where I live, my friendīs brother said that he īfoundī them while stationed with the RNoAF about 15 years ago.

I know that working out the type of aircraft it may have been set up for is not really possible but to narrow it down there is a Scott made 3 pin to 2 pin adaptor fitted to the end of the oxygen hose, I thought this might be a clue.

The adaptor has a harness mounting plate much like the various Gentex CRU oxygen connectors but without the connector for an ejection seat bottle (another clue to the type of aircraft?) so it really is just an adaptor from the Gentex 3 pin to the 2 pin friction type. The other interesting thing is that the HGU-68/P helmet has the single, left mounted visor rail, not the common visor with the elastic.

I guess it could be for a C2 Greyhound, an E-2 Hawkeye, C-130 Hercules or or ............. then again, it has no boom mike.
The adapter can be seen in the lower photo, and I will stop writing, cheers, John
